Time to Move Your Home Business?

Time to Move Your Home Business?

Signs that it’s time

Many entrepreneurs start a venture in their own home with hopes that it will one day turn into a viable business. In the early days of Google, co-founders Larry Page and Sergey Brin even set up a workplace for Google in the garage of their friend and now VP of Product Management of the search giant, Susan Wojcicki.

Although a home office offers the benefits of low costs, flexibility, and more, many businesses reach the point in which it becomes necessary to move to a separate location. As discussed in the video above, there are several indications that will let business owners know if it really is time for them to move on.

For starters, if you are not being productive at home, then you probably need to find a new location. A lack of productivity could result from distractions from your family, not having outside human interaction, and a variety of other reasons.

Secondly, a good indication that you should move your business is if your business is growing. If you have more inventory than your house can handle, then it’s probably safe to say that your business is growing. Understand that this example only applies if your business is actually moving the inventory, and not if you have a lot of products that you still need to sell.

A third reason you should consider a move is if your business is growing so much that you need to hire employees. Out of respect for your family, your neighbors, and your business’s image, it is probably a good idea to find a separate office to conduct your business with your additional workers.

Fourthly, to give your business a more professional appeal, it would be wise to move locations. Although coffee shops have become quite popular for business relations, most clients still prefer a quiet and private environment.

Lastly, if you have trouble concentrating at home and are constantly going to the park or the aforementioned coffee shop, you might as well open up a separate location. If not, you will find that you are wasting valuable time in finding a quiet place, when you could be working.

Although having a home-based business can be very effective when a business first begins and even during difficult economic times, such as we are experiencing now; but if any of the above indications are true for you, then you should definitely consider moving your business to an outside office. If not, you could end up hurting your business.

Are You Motivated about Your Business?

Tips for keeping your motivations high

Thomas Jefferson once said, “Nothing can stop the man with the right mental attitude from achieving his goal; nothing on earth can help the man with the wrong mental attitude.”

This quote applies directly to entrepreneurs and business owners. If an entrepreneur buckles under the weight of challenging times, he will not succeed. Staying motivated is a key success factor, as pointed out in the above video.

So, what can business owners do to keep their passion alive? For starters, they can try reading their mission statement or an inspirational quote aloud each morning. Studies have shown that reading something aloud is more effective than reading something silently.

After you’ve started your day on a positive note, it is a good idea to do your most important tasks first. If you catch up on email or get involved with something else, you could easily lose your initiative by the time you get to your real priorities. Not only will you be less likely to get distracted, but you will also be able to focus better if you complete your tasks in their order of importance.

Look at this morning ritual like an exercise routine. Understand that the more you do it, the stronger you will get.

Keeping a positive attitude and staying motivated is not easy. However, they will put you on the road to success. Motivational speaker Gary Vaynerchuk of Wine Library TV and VaynerMedia

says anyone has the ability to be successful, but they have to be willing to work hard.

“You cannot build a real business unless you work your butt off,” said Vaynerchuk.

Although it’s not always easy to do, if you are able to keep your motivation high, you are on the right track for being successful.
